Week 4 Wikis
Well, I looked over the ativity outline and I realise that I did the requirements. I did do the reading and even visited Library Success: A Best Practices Wiki. Read all of the articles and joined wetpaint. I really liked Library Success. There a lot of links to recent developments. Like all things, time to surf and check them out are at a premium.

week 3 RSS feeds
Here is my post from our website:
Well, I have added a few feeds to my blog and some to IE7 here. Library theme rss is Blogs of Note; Stitching them rss is A stitch in Time and news rss is Macleans. I figure I have ALL my bases covered. I tend to use blogrolls on my blog to check out my faves. My site visitors can see what I am interested in and go on a merry journey and see where it leads them.
I like rss feeds (if there is a blog that is consistent with posting), and like the ease of reading the newest updates. I do tend to use my blogroll more though. I will be posting about the feeds I have subscribed to in my blog soon…. (been very busy on desk……. very, very busy!) :o)

WEEK 5-6 , February 14 to 20, 2008–PLAYTIME!
Well, this was fun. Found some new things to try.
Added the The Blog Readability Test and found that my blog is Highschool (geesh, did better when I had the wordpress blog... but I don't like wordpress).

I also did investigate this site; “Slam the Boards!” and thought it was neat.
Sketchcast was not fun, I could not make it work.
google custom search is also a tool I use, although infrequently. I sometimes have too much to do to remember all the benefits of apps.

Week 7 Photos and Images
Well, I am quite comfortable with adding photos and images to my posts, so that is done!
Week 8 Social Bookmarking and Tagging
Well, I find that social bookmarking and tagging is almost to me akin to rss feeds. updates to information, easy to find and easy to use.
I have had a del.icio.us account for a while, and I am familiar with reddit, digg and stumbleupon. At one time or another I have visited all of the sites.
I did visit library thing and really liked it. I did add it too.
Flickr... well I have been using another photo hosting site (can't remember the name, tells how much I use it), tho I have recently joined flickr.
the two activities this week are to create a del.icio.us account (done) and created a library thing account (done - crzysttchr is the name surprise!!!).

Week 9 Social networking
So, this was tres fun. I have had a myspace account for a while and a Facebook acct too. I like the Facebook as it is more streamlined and has more to do. It is more uniform and easier to read. MySpace is crazy. It seems anyone can ""pimp"" thier page and not all are easy to read. It is interesting to find out information about friends, rock groups, etc.
I did visit the HPL facebook page and added the scrabulous app. I also looked around the site.
On the Library 2.0 site I did add a pic of myself, changed details and added some friends. I also visited some friends pages!

Week 10 catch up week
Well, since I am trying to list all of the weeks and their developments. Catch up is good, but I want more to do.
Week 11 Electronic Database Services @ HPL
Well, I did do this. I set up an Ebsco alert and it appears at the top of my blog on the right.
I also have Bloglines. It is an rss feed that I can put all my fave feeds into (over 200 at this time). So that was easy. I have also added some rss feeds to my msn fave searchbar here and at home. I tend to use Bloglines more as they are all in one place and accessible from anywhere.
The benefit of RSS feeds are enormous! Instant news updates, ways to reach your audience quickly. I think they are wonderful for all types of businesses, organizations, persons.

week 15 Social networking
So, where to begin. I am an avid social person (never mind you guys) and I have lots to do and see when I am surfing around. I have had a second life avatar for a few yrs, but don't go on much. My avatar for second life is wearing jeans. And my name is of course, Crzysttchr
I also have an IMVU avatar (could not believe that there has been one created by my son as well on my email!!! grrr). My avatar's name is..... wait for it.... Crzysttchr...... I don't use IMVU really as I don't have many people I know on there. I did meet a very nice young woman today who is from Spain and she was trying to converse with me in spanish and I only knew a few words. We did manage to say hello, how are you, how old are you and where do you live.... not too bad. Here my avatar is wearing a lovely gown. It is fun to try to work around the world. I have not visited many places as I haven't had time. My puter seems to have the wrong kind of video card and it is very slow.
I also have a runescape account so I can watch my son. He has helped me get around and given me free things. I really like runescape and find it a wonderful learning tool for kids. You must learn how to make fire, fish, ore for minerals to make weapons, fight monsters to get points and buy, sell, trade with others. It is quite an adventure with much to learn; similar to pokemon with hit points, challenge points, and much more. My avatars name is, yep you guessed it, crzystchr (had to take off a letter or two; still have to check the spelling).
As far as online games like arcade versions, I have a Club Pogo membership which I just LOVE! I frequently go on to meet friends from all over, including work, and use it to win badges and tokens (we have mini me avatars that we can buy clothes for, special backgrounds and more). I use this account to relax and chill.
I was also playing pixiepit for scrabble with Char, but you have to pay and I am not using that one anymore. It is email based and would notify you when it was your turn. Quite fun! I also play scrabulous on Facebook with many friends and co-workers as well.
I did try MUSH type of games earlier, but didn't like the text format.... reminded me of our old Radio Shack computer with text games...you remember, the ollllllllld type of game, around the time of Pong. lol
Other types of games: MSN games - yep go there too. Not very often, as I really love pogo. Yahoo games - been there. Pop cap , yeppers.
Now onto the thoughts about these places. I can really see a use for social networking sites (Facebook, MySpace) as opposed to social games (SecondLife, Runescape, etc). Facebook and others can give you an arena for sharing information that can be updated quickly. Can be accessed by many people, and not hard to navigate. I do find that the other "games" are more work and will take away from the information sharing aspect. I do see the benefit of "rooms" but not sure how many will use them. There is a lot to see, do and figure out for these "games" as opposed to just going to a site to check out the latest info.
so, I will continue to use my Facebook regularly, and Pogo to help me unwind. Other than that I will check in from time to time on the others, but unless I have more friends to look up, I am not sure if I will spend much time there.

Week 14 - Online applications

Ok, this is not new to me. I have had a Google document acct for a while. I like it as I can use it whenever I am online. I can save things I come across and look at them later. One such document I created is from a site and book that I find interesting. Here is a document I have created:
(((sorry about the link, just copy and paste... seems blogger is having issues putting the link in for me!)))
http://docs.google.com/View?docID=dc89spxd_49d8688f&revision=_latest
I think this type of collaborative application is wonderful. It beats having to save to a datastick, disk or even paper copy. It can be shared or not. I love the flexibility. I will definitely be using a database app like lazybase. It would be neat to have my recipe collection there! Same with presentation apps. I don't have Microsoft office (as you can only have the student version on 2 puters and mine isn't one of them at home), and I am not sure I like the Open Office version. So, thanks to Stan and Bruce, more for me to look at and experiment with.

Week 13 Podcasts and Video

Well, I don't really like podcasts. I guess if I could find something related to my interests (needlework and its history, archaeology and anthropology)I would be more impressed. I will look further, but I would rather watch video of a topic or read something (maybe a book lol ). I do like Youtube. My kids and I like to watch comedians (SNL - Gilda Radner, Stewart, Miss Swan and ventriloquists (Jeff Dunham, Terry Fator) and videos they have done (silly but their 15 minutes).
I really like this Youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MugQDD2FcKQ&feature=related
I know it is not politically correct, but darn, is he good.
Until next time!!!!
